As a PTE Academic exam taker, you might wonder if something urgent comes up before the exam and all your PTE exam preparation goes vain as you are unable to take the exam on the booked date, then what? Can the exam be rescheduled? Will you be getting refund if you cancel your exam?
Well, the refund depends on a number of conditions. Pearson has a rescheduling and canceling policy in place, just for cases like these. Though, there is a provision under which you can reschedule or cancel your exam before the exam date, yet it needs to be done within a period of 14 days of booking the exam, otherwise you will lose your right to a refund or cancellation. To request a refund, you can contact the PTE customer service team of your region. Also, there is a certain amount of fee applicable to these changes.
Refunds directly depend on the time when you cancel or reschedule your test -
If you reschedule or cancel more than 7 days before your test, then for:
If you reschedule or cancel within 7 days or less until your test, then for:
However, there is one exception to it, which applies to medical reasons. Say, if you are physically unable to appear in the test center on the test day, then PTE may agree to reschedule the test free of charge or at a reduced fee, but this is solely at PTE's discretion. The PTE customer service team usually seeks medical evidence to prove the medical reasons responsible for your absence. Even if you can't appear for the exam for medical reasons, the provision of an automatic right that allows you to rebook or get a refund if you cannot sit a test for medical reasons is absent. However, the test can't be rescheduled more than once for medical reasons.
And in case you fail to turn up to the exam center on the appointed date due to any other reason (except medical), you will not receive a refund as Pearson is not liable to refund you any amount for your indiscretion or irresponsibility to reach the exam center on time and on the given date.
Regarding the booking and scheduling of the exam, you can book the exam as little as 24 hours in advance, although that costs a little more than the standard exam fees. The standard PTE Academic exam fee is Rs 11,271 + 18% GST which comes out to be Rs 13,300. And in case you are booking for your exam late, the price of late booking is Rs. 14,089 + 18% GST which comes out to be Rs 16,625.
It can be concluded that it's better to keep rescheduling or cancellation as the last resort and try to book the dates for the exam considering your own schedule and availability. And of course for emergencies, there is no alternative than to do whatever you possibly can at the moment, to mitigate the damages.
